What Sets Us Apart

Our Story

The Newberry Institute (TNI) was born out of a vision to build resilient communities through purposeful partnerships. Nestled in the heart of Hawkinsville, Georgia, TNI’s journey began with the belief that lasting change comes when we work together to address challenges and create opportunities.

Our roots run deep in the values of collaboration, compassion, and community. What started as a small initiative to address food insecurity and strengthen community ties has grown into a diverse organization that touches lives across various areas, including environmental conservation, interfaith dialogue, and civic engagement. Each of our programs reflects our commitment to fostering growth, equity, and sustainability.

From the establishment of Rosa’s Food Pantry to the creation of spaces like Ameenah’s Interfaith Center and Annie Lee’s Porch, we have remained steadfast in our mission to empower individuals and communities. Our forestry and conservation initiatives showcase our dedication to protecting natural resources, while the Plow & Pew Democracy Center underscores our belief in the power of civic engagement to shape a better future.

Throughout the years, we’ve witnessed the strength of what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose. Our story is not just about programs and initiatives—it’s about the people who have joined hands with us along the way. Volunteers, partners, and community members have all played a vital role in transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.

As we look to the future, our vision remains clear: to continue building bridges, fostering resilience, and making a lasting impact. Whether through partnerships, volunteering, or innovative solutions, TNI is committed to empowering communities and shaping a more equitable, sustainable world.

Join us on this journey as we write the next chapter of our story—together.
